Our first article presents information on Alzheimer’s Disease and other cognitive disorders faced by elderly. The second article is on assisted care, finances, and resources for families when the elderly family member can no longer care for him/her self. The third article in the series will discuss working together with other family members in addressing the needs of the elderly.

Helping Your Child with School Anxiety

Adjusting to a new school year can be exciting and difficult for some kids.  Worries are natural.  Helping your child ease back into the school year and navigating some of the anxiety of a new school year requires support both at home and at school.  Some helpful tips for your child’s first day:

  • Listen to their fears about school without “buts” – Use phrases such as “I hear that you are worried about….”
  • Validate their feelings – Say “The first day of school can be scary and many other kids are worried too.”
  • Express confidence in your child – “I know you will do great today!”
